RUN Return With Searing Surprise Two Track ‘Ash + Soil’

Melbourne blackened post-metalcore band RUN have returned with a surprise two track release 'Ash + Soil', their first new music following the release of their True Heaviness Is Time EP last year. Helmed by vocalist Lochlan Watt, the release sees the enigmatic frontman collaborate with a number of different musicians, resulting in two very immense and ferocious tracks.
Speaking with Watt about the release, he noted that working with different writers played in the band's favour given the themes of the songs.
"The basic concept for 'Ash + Soil' was to partner up two opposites and create the most fast, short, and hectic RUN song yet, alongside the most epic, long, and doomy, RUN song yet. I collaborated with some mates from Melbourne on the songs - Pat Kearney from Post Heaven wrote ‘Ash’, while Nick Simonsen from Caution:Thieves wrote ‘Soil’. Drums were played by my German friend Paul Seidel who is known for his work with The Ocean and War From A Harlots Mouth and it’s safe to say that everyone killed it."

To coincide with the release, RUN has teamed up with Thirty Two Records for a very special vinyl release, that includes the two new songs as well as an exclusive remix of ‘Autumn’ by Portland industrial artist King Yosef. The release not only features the next chapter in the bands musical journey, but also their artwork, continuing Watt’s collaboration with Pat Galvin.
"Through the process of collaborating with Pat Galvin at Hollow Bones Studio on bringing my concepts to life, we have created an aesthetic universe that reflects RUN’s music but also exists as a concurrent little visual journey.
Starting with a single tree on the first single ‘For You’, the art then expanded track by track to show the full landscape with ‘Will Never’, ‘Find Peace’, and ‘Within’, before heading into space with ‘Your Quiet’. Come True Heaviness Is Time, we’re looking back down upon the landscape to see that it is in fact part of a mammoth flat earth sundial, and from there the idea was to head further and further out into the solar system for a full-length album.
Given the loss of the lineup that created that EP, I felt it was necessary to return back down to the scorched earth to find some grounding with a new approach, and consolidate before taking flight into the deep unknown, and that’s what 'Ash + Soil' represents visually."
Here’s hoping that full-length album isn’t far away.
In the meantime, get your ears around these new RUN tracks and catch them on a show near you over the next few months.
