Future Static Kick Off Next Era With ‘There’s Nowhere Else To Go’

Future Static cemented their place in the scene with the release of their debut LP Liminality in 2023, which feels like yesterday as the album is still constantly in rotation. The band have enjoyed success on international stages, as well as national + regional tours either headlining their own shows or supporting massive overseas acts. For those like myself who have been keen for further listens of a brand new single after it’s live debut on the Future Static and Reliqa regional tour, ‘There’s Nowhere Else To Go’ is finally here.

From the opening riffs, quick onset of melodies, guitar flourishes, and eerie vocals I’m hooked. The soundscape of the song is very push and pull. Powerful choruses are followed up frenetic vocals and impactful instrumentals. I love how Amariah Cook utilizes vocal polarities between heavy and cleans, particularly when they merge in lines such as “Can you feel the sun? I'll make your blood boil with this one.” The song pulls back before smashing you in the face with a breakdown, leading you into a swan song final chorus.

The coalescence and soundscape of Future Static tickles my brain unlike anything else, and ‘There’s Nowhere Else To Go’ is no exception. With a new era upon us, this first foray into a post Liminality era has reinvigorated my passion for not just Future Static but for Australian music. Take the time to listen to ‘There’s Nowhere Else To Go’, take in all of the passion and mastery at work, and prepare yourself for whatever is next from Future Static.
