DON BROCO Have GONE LOCO with Heaviness on ‘Cellophane’

“Living is heavy weight.” - Rob Damiani, Don Broco, ‘Cellophane’ 2025.
It is a tumultuous and terrifying time to be alive at the moment. The soaring price of living, natural disasters, rampant illnesses, the looming prospect of World War III, and so much more incites fear and uncertainty to millions of people around the world.
When vocalist Rob Damiani from the UK’s alt-pop-rock powerhouse Don Broco engagingly enounces: “Living is heavy weight” in the pre-chorus of their sensationally seismic new single ‘Cellophane’, he flawlessly captures the astounding anguish many feel every day.
But how do we work through this torment and mayhem? Famed writer and Academy of American Poets Fellowship award winner Robert Hayden once said: "Art is not escape, but a way of finding order in chaos, a way of confronting life"; to a degree this is what Don Broco have achieved with their new track.
“Living is heavy weight” – the Bedfordians have responded with their HEAVIEST yet, welcome to ‘Cellophane’.
The crushing composition begins with a subtle percussion rhythm and dissonant, repeated slash of guitar. A magnificently mutated nu-metal introduction which showcases a nod of respect to the genre’s trailblazers KoЯn, and their iconic ‘Blind’ belter. That delightful derangement is broken by the cinematic powerful croon of Mr. Damiani with the major lyrical message of DB’s song: “I'm breathing through cellophane!” echoes through the observers’ ears, minds and souls in enrapturing exhilaration. We are ready to find “order in chaos” and “a way of confronting life".
The explosion at the 19-second mark is where that heavy discordant bounce shakes the earth, and Australia’s own Ocean Grove would more-than-likely jump ‘Up In The Air Forever’ in appreciation of the ‘Broco’s sound exploration. Moments of Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and even Bring Me The Horizon creep in as the track undergoes its adventurous pathway. In its lighter moments, subtle hints of latter-day Boston Manor, and even Fixation’s theatrical metallic pop are sprinkled through. Undeniably though, this is Don Broco and they have Gone LOCO in heaviness brilliantly.
The brutiful metalcore monsoon occurs at approximately two-minutes-and-fifteen-seconds, when Damiani devastatingly declares: “Chitty-chitty, bang, I'm 'bout to blow!” in a screaming severity, which is fantastically followed by a thunderous breakdown. Assuredly ‘Cellophane’ will become THAT SONG that elevates thousands of attendees at major festivals and venues in the very near future.
The composition wraps up blending the first verse and chorus in a majestic anthem concoction that is beyond infectious:
“It's heavy weight,
Breathing through cellophane.”
As the band explains: “Cellophane is about realizing you’re not as tough as you thought,” they describe wholeheartedly, "that maybe you mentally don’t have what it takes, but at the same time are afraid of getting the help you need.”
The single produced by Dan Lancaster (Blink-182, Muse, Bring MeThe Horizon), is released alongside the exciting announcement that the quartet have signed with Fearless Records. This exciting prospect perfectly aligns with Don Broco’s touring schedule, which reaches Australian shores this September with the radical RedHook as support - co-presented by The Phoenix and Wall Of Sound.
Be prepared to find order in chaos, find a way of confronting life, and living HEAVY with Don Broco!
