1. Metallica - …And Justice for All (Box Set)
2/11/2018
Limited edition deluxe numbered box set of …And Justice for All includes the album remastered on 180-gram double LP and CD, three live LPs, picture disc, eleven CDs + four DVDs featuring unreleased content, MP3 download card of all audio, tour laminate, set of four patches, Pushead print, lyric folder and sheets, and a 120-page hardcover book with never-before-seen photos + stories. This is the be all and end all for any Metallica fan. An absolute treasure chest of goodies from arguably their finest album. Either way, a mighty impressive box set and vinyl wise the remastered version of the record is A+, even if they haven’t tinkered much with the lack of bass. The inclusion of three rare live lp’s and a picture disc is cool too. If you have the money – look no further.

2. The Beatles - The White Album (Box Set)
9/11/2018
For 50 years, The Beatles' The White Album has been passed onto generation after generation and this year it received its most precious remastering and reissue. Lavishly presented, including a 180-gram 4LP vinyl set housed in a 2 piece lift off lid box and gatefold sleeves. The album’s 30 tracks are newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell in stereo. An audiophile’s wet dream.

3. Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction (Locked ‘N Loaded Boxset)
29/06/2018
This is the GN’R Holy Grail. Without a doubt one for the rich people but if this landed under any GNR fans tree this Christmas they would be eternally grateful. Deep breath….the box includes the Super Deluxe Edition with 4CDs featuring the album newly remastered for the first time ever; B-sides N’ EPs newly remastered; the previously unreleased 1986 Sound City Session N’ More recordings; a Blu-ray Audio disc with the album, bonus tracks and music videos in brand new 5.1 surround sound along with the unearthed music video for “It’s So Easy” originally shot in 1989 but never finished; and a 96-page hardcover book showcasing unseen photos from Axl Rose’s personal archive and a wealth of memorabilia. But this is all about the vinyl and this box doesn’t hold back in that department! The Locked N’ Loaded box contains high quality collectables including seven 12-inch 180g audiophile vinyl discs, seven 7-inch singles on yellow vinyl, a dozen lithos newly visualizing each song on Appetite, 5 custom hand-made metal-cast band skull face rings, 5 hand-made metal-cast band skull face lapel pins, buttons, patches, replica concert tickets and gig flyers, 5 metal skull face and signature-stamped guitar picks, a turntable mat, wall posters, replica ‘85/’86 club days banner, a Robert Williams painting litho, never-before-seen band lithos, a numbered certificate of authenticity and more. Wow. Just wow.

4. The Wonder Years - Sister Cities
6/04/2018
Philadelphia natives The Wonder Years returned in 2018 with their new studio album Sister Cities, a collection of testimonials on love, loss, and finding commonalities in the human experience despite cultural differences. It is one of the most thought-provoking albums of the year and its lyrics are poetic genius at times. Produced by Joe Chiccarelli (Manchester Orchestra, Morrissey, The Strokes), the album expands on the band's unique brand of emotional rock that has gained them a massive cult following since their start in 2007. This version presents the album in a hardcover book with a die-cut on that front, with changing backgrounds and features 200-pages of photos, tour journals, poetry, paintings and artefacts. Limited to 2500 copies, if this album floated your boat in 2018 then this is just a beautifully presented vinyl version and hence it’s high rating on this list.

5. Black Sabbath - Ten Year War (Box Set)
2/02/2018
Black Sabbath are widely known for their incredible vinyl releases. The Ozzy days in the band produced some of the best produced vinyl in the history of rock/metal but never have these albums been so meticulously remastered and presented. You will pay for the privilege but this war chest contains; 8 x vinyl LPs reproduced in their original sleeves, re-mastered by renowned mastering engineer Andy Pearce from the original tapes and pressed on 180 gram splatter-coloured vinyl, each LP with unique and individual colouring. 2 x rare 7” singles, reproduced in their original sleeves: a Japanese version of Evil Woman (Don’t Play Your Games With Me)/Black Sabbath and a Chilean version of Paranoid/The Wizard (only 100 copies of the original radio promo were pressed). Added to the vinyl sets is a Crucifix shaped Black Sabbath USB stick, exclusive to this box set, which can be worn around the neck and contains MQA high definition audio of the first eight Black Sabbath albums, an extremely rare The Ten Year War brochure, reproduced from the original publication, a hardback book, featuring accolades from the cream of rock royalty, coupled with official and candid iconic photography of the band during their 1970s tours, recording sessions and photo-shoots, a 10 Year Anniversary World Tour 1978 Official Programme, impeccably reproduced and finally a reprinted tour poster from the 1972 Seattle Centre Arena show. All box sets are individually numbered. Drool factor 10/10.

6. Tash Sultana - Flow State
31/08/2018
Melbournian, Tash Sultana dropped her full length debut album earlier this year and clearly had vinyl lovers in mind with its release. One of the most impeccably packaged vinyl albums of 2018, Flow State comes pressed on a limited edition, yellow/orange, double gatefold LP vinyl, includes 2 x LPs in a stunning double gatefold cover, a 16 page lyric booklet and a fold out double sided poster. It is rated highly on this list for a reason….the music, the packaging, the soul.

7. Def Leppard - The Collection: Volume One (Box Set)
1/06/2018
This is apparently the first of three volumes but wow, the band have outdone themselves in just the first volume. Released in a limited-edition 180-gram heavyweight vinyl box set, it features Def Leppard’s first four studio albums — along with some choice bonus live and studio material — all spread across 8LPs. The Volume One collection contains all of Def Leppard’s iconic 1980s recordings – On Through The Night, High ‘N’ Dry, Pyromania and Hysteria - with reproductions of the original packaging. Furthermore, this collection includes a replica 7-inch single of the band’s original independent EP, the self-titled The Def Leppard E.P. Bonus material includes Live At The LA Forum 1983, originally released as a bonus disc in the deluxe CD version of Pyromania, making this the first-ever vinyl offering of the complete show. This 2LP version comes with a new sleeve and inner bags. The box set also includes Rarities Volume 1 which has been specially compiled by Joe Elliott, containing rare B-sides and recordings from Def Leppard’s early years, all in a newly commissioned sleeve. Each album in the Volume One box set was mastered by long time band producer/sound master Ronan McHugh and frontman/vocalist Joe Elliott at Joe’s Garage in Dublin, Ireland, and cut by Greg Moore. Housed in rigid boxes, the Volume One collection also contains a hardback book with rare photos by longstanding band confidant Ross Halfin and liner notes by Classic Rock’s Paul Elliott. Def Leppard band members Joe Elliott, bassist Rick Savage, drummer Rick Allen, and guitarist Phil Collen have all also contributed their personal introductions to the collection. A truly magnificent collection specific to vinyl.

8. Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same (Box Set)
7/09/2018
The soundtrack to the legendary concert film of the same name, which was released in 1976. The performances in the film were recorded July 27-29, 1973 at Madison Square Garden during the band’s tour for its then-current studio album, Houses Of The Holy. The Super Deluxe Boxed Set is the most exquisite and elaborate release in the reissue series, recreating the intricate embossing of the set’s original issue and will also mark the first time the full length film and soundtrack have been available in the same package. It’s been remastered before, but if you don’t own previous versions, then this may well be ‘the’ version to own. It includes, the remastered audio on two CDs and four 180-gram vinyl LPs. A Two DVD set of the The Song Remains The Same featuring the full theatrical version of the film plus bonus content including four performance outtakes that were not part of the original film: “Celebration Day,” “Over The Hills And Far Away,” “Misty Mountain Hop,” and “The Ocean,” a DVD of the entire album in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and PCM Stereo, plus photo gallery, a High-def download card of all stereo audio content at 96kHz/24 bit, a 28-page book featuring band photos and stills from the film and an essay by Cameron Crowe, a replica of the Japanese program from 1977, previously available only when the film first toured cinemas in that country and a high-quality print of the original album cover. The first 30,000 will be individually numbered.

Punk legends, Rise Against dropped an amazing career vinyl box set in October, featuring all eight of their studio albums pressed on 180g vinyl. 10. Pink Floyd – Pulse (Box Set)
18/05/2018
Originally released in 1995, Pulse was compiled by James Guthrie, using various performances from the band’s 1994 Division Bell tour across the UK and Europe featuring David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album includes ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ performed in full live, as well as a whole side dedicated to the show’s encore. The 4-LP set includes four different inner sleeves, each inside individual outer sleeves, plus a 52-page hardback photo book, all encased in a thick card slipcase. This 2018 release was remastered from the original tapes by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman. Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis and Peter Curzon, who worked on the original art with the late Hipgnosis co-founder, Storm Thorgerson, who recreated the art package. With any box set this grand, of course all four LP’s come pressed on 180 gram.

11. Soulfly - Live At Dynamo Open Air 1998
22/06/2018
With Soulfly’s debut album in the stores for just a month, the eclectic thrash metal band played their first concert ever at the Dynamo Open Air in May 1998. At that time, this massive event in The Netherlands was the world’s biggest metal event. On this show, Soulfly played songs from their debut as well as Sepultura classics like 'Beneath The Remains' and 'Roots Bloody Roots'. Guests on this very special show include Chino Moreno (Deftones) and Benji Webbe (Skindred). This album is part of a series of recordings set to be released in the coming years from Dynamo Concerts. The live recording is exceptional and translates to vinyl surprisingly well, earning it high praise on this list, and a bargain price on some websites should you be lucky enough to still find one, your loved one will be a very happy person.

13. Amon Amarth - The Pursuit of Vikings
16/11/2018
The legendary Viking metal band dropped their double LP to compliment the band’s retrospective documentary that tells the Swedish quintet's story through both their own eyes and those of the fans that have supported them along the way. As such, it is both a thrilling collection that pays respect to the faithful and a detailed and riveting introduction for those new to their unique story. The vinyl features, the Main Stage Show from Summer Breeze Festival: August 17th, 2017 presented on clear Vinyl with Black Splatter amongst one of the variants housed in a gatefold jacket. This particular variant is limited to 250 Copies.

14. Behemoth - I Loved You At Your Darkest
5/10/2018
This is not a box set but it does come pressed on a limited double lp, so pick up whilst you can. The darkest band on earth is at its sacra religious best on I Loved You At Your Darkest, diving head first into its satanic glory but more importantly for vinyl lovers, the pressing on wax is nothing short of a masterpiece and with a 17-piece Polish orchestra in tow, it is one of Behemoth’s most accomplished releases. The range of variants available should make any eye candy vinyl collector weak at the knees.

15. Trivium – Ascendency
7/12/2018
Four Trivium albums received their virgin vinyl pressing but I’ve plucked out the limited orange vinyl LP pressing of Ascendancy, the band’s second studio album to highlight it’s beauty. Originally released on March 15, 2005 by Roadrunner Records, this marks the first Trivium album to feature guitarist Corey Beaulieu and bassist Paolo Gregoletto. The album was produced by Jason Suecof and frontman, Matt Heafy. The album spawned four singles in "Like Light to the Flies", "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr", "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation" and "Dying in Your Arms". Gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeve lyrics and pressed onto double vinyl. Just do it.

16. Shihad - The General Electric
12/10/2018
Originally released in October 1999, the album peaked at No. 1 on the New Zealand albums chart and has been certified triple platinum. Featuring the singles, "My Mind’s Sedate", "The General Electric" "Pacifier" and "Wait And See", the album has been newly remastered by Tony "Jack the Bear" Mantz who has oversaw the previous Shihad reissues. Released on vinyl for the very first time, in a special limited edition double 180 gram coloured vinyl, cut at 45RPM for those audiophile circle jerks.

17. Blink 182 - Enema of the State
2/11/2018
Opaque Blue Vinyl. Limited to 1,500 copies. Immediately my eyes pop wide open. Srcvinyl is giving the Blink 182 catalogue the full SRCHIFI treatment with limited edition audiophile-level pressings and premium packaging. The deluxe version of Enema of the State was mastered for vinyl by Kevin Gray (Coherent Audio), was pressed at RTI on a limited edition 180 gram audiophile, virgin black vinyl, with 1500 limited to opaque blue. The album is housed in a thick 24 pt gatefold jacket with a matte finish and includes centre labels unique to this pressing. The deluxe edition of Enema of the State includes a 28 page booklet dubbed the Ultimate Enema Guide featuring lyrics and expanded artwork. I love this album so much it’s not funny however it is let down ever so slightly by being an edited clean version of the album, an absolute WTF moment. But the 2 x fucks on the album, I couldn’t care less about in the overall scheme of things. A great pick up for the Blink fans out there.

18. The Living End – Wunderbar/Live in Europe

19. Def Leppard - Hysteria Singles Box
30/11/2018
Another Def Leppard boxset and wow can they produce some stellar content. This is a 7” vinyl box set of all of the incredible singles from the eponymous multi-platinum album, Hysteria which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Featuring 10 singles including 2 unique to this collection – ‘Excitable’ and ‘Love and Affection’ – the set also sees the cover art of 9 of the singles making up the sleeve of the original album, plus an additional special Spanish single. Housed in a classic lift-off box, Hysteria: The Singles also includes a booklet with a full band discography and an introduction by Joe Elliott himself. Def Leppard fans activate!

20. Angels & Airwaves - I-Empire
7/12/2018
Everyone loves a limited pressing and this Angels & Airwaves classic comes courtesy of another Srcvinyl reissue, pressed on 180 gram limited edition coloured vinyl. The album was mastered for vinyl and lacquers created by Stan Ricker. The first pressing includes two variants - a 180 gram clear variant exclusive to the band's website (now sold out) and a 180 gram gold variant exclusive to srcvinyl, there is also an orange variant available. Good luck tracking one down. The vinyl is housed in a matte finish gatefold jacket and includes an 11 x 22 matte insert. The vinyl features acoustic versions of ‘The Adventure’ & ‘Good Day’.
21. Clutch - Book of Bad Decisions
7/09/2018
Despite some complaining that the centre hole is too small (#thatswhatshesaid), the overall vinyl version of Clutch’s new album is impeccable. From the cool artwork on gatefold sleeve to a limited pressing on green coke bottle vinyl. Mastered well, another Neil Fallon lyrical statement, Clutch deserve to be well and truly at the top of any vinyl lovers collection come Christmas time. Don’t hesitate.

22. Slayer - Repentless (6.66” red vinyl box set)
15/06/2018
Slayer have produced some epic collections or boxsets in their past, sometimes hitting the mark but sometimes lacking too. This limited collector’s box dissects the band’s pummelling masterpiece and final album, Repentless, into six collectable red 6.66 inch vinyl. Also includes oversized 16 page booklet, all within a deluxe box. Limited and numbered to 2500 copies. I like the fact they’ve gone all 666 in this release. It’s gimmicky but it sets out what turned out to be the band’s final album into a spectacular audio treat for Slayer fans. Did I say it looks cool too?

24. Blink 182 - Greatest Hits
14/12/2018
Another Srcvinyl remastering reissue from the Blink 182 camp. A limited pressing on clear coloured vinyl. The deluxe version of Greatest Hits was mastered for vinyl by Kevin Gray (Coherent Audio), and is pressed at RTI on limited edition vinyl. Blink's Greatest Hits is compiled from tracks from Cheshire Cat, Dude Ranch, Enema of the State, The Mark, Tom and Travis Show, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, untitled and more. The album also sports two bonus items, 'Not Now' (an outtake from its 2003 untitled album) and 'Another Girl Another Planet', which serves as the theme to the MTV reality show Meet the Barkers, starring Blink drummer Travis Barker. This is the fourth repressing on vinyl, but it’s a classic, it’s on a limited crisp clear vinyl variant and it’s fucking awesome, so just buy it!

25. Black Sabbath - Supersonic Years: The Seventies Singles
8/06/2018
Supersonic Years - The Seventies Singles Box Set, released June 8 through BMG, documents the band's run of hit singles as never before and features an array of unique content. This limited-edition box set includes five rare single edits: Iron Man / Sabbath Bloody Sabbath / Am I Going Insane (Radio) / Hard Road / Symptom Of The Universe. It includes 10 unique colour picture sleeves from around the world, either ultra-rare or exclusive to this box set. The set is remastered by renowned engineer Andy Pearce. Included are new liner notes booklet detailing the rarities contained within the box set, along with the story behind the birth and evolution of the most culturally important genre of all time. If you were to buy the originals of the singles, it would cost you a lot of money and besides that they will be used, not brand new, like these. But nothing I say will make any sense if you are not a Black Sabbath fan. The mastering job is superb. No clicks, pops, rush or anything that would indicate that they didn’t use virgin vinyl for this set. Any Sabbath fan would be very happy with this.

26. Led Zeppelin - How the West Was Won
23/03/2018
Led Zeppelin continue their campaign with a new edition of their celebrated live album How The West Was Won, originally released in 2003, featuring newly remastered audio, which was done under the supervision of Jimmy Page. Highlighting the best performances from Led Zeppelin’s legendary concerts at the Los Angeles Forum and Long Beach Arena on June 25 and 27, 1972. Melded together and sequenced to replicate a single concert from beginning to end, it captures the band at the height of its formidable powers. Standouts include a 25-plus minute version of “Dazed And Confused” and a 21-minute medley based around “Whole Lotta Love.” The performances also capture the band introducing songs from its then-unreleased album Houses Of The Holy, which would be released nine months later. The Super Deluxe Boxed Set includes: Remastered audio on three CDs and four 180-gram vinyl LPs; a DVD of album in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and PCM Stereo, plus photo gallery; High-def download card of all stereo audio content at 96kHz/24 bit; A book filled with rare and previously unpublished photos of the band at each of the concert locations, plus memorabilia and ephemera; High-quality print of the original album cover, the first 30,000 of which will be individually numbered. Everyone knows just how good these Led Zep reissues have been. Superbly packaged and the remastering jobs on all these Led Zep classics are astounding.

All remastered and all at the ready to blow away your neighbours! The collection offers a limited one-time-only pressing that includes reimagined cover artwork, redesigned gatefold jackets, and audio mastered for vinyl. 28. Opeth - Garden of the Titans: Live At Red Rocks
2/11/2018
Vinyl and live music go hand in hand, so when Swedish progressive metal legends Opeth released Garden of the Titans: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on November 2nd we were all over it like a seagull on a dropped chip. Featuring the band’s performance on May 11th, 2017 at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, the vinyl version captures as incredible live set described by many an Opeth fan as their best to date. The LP’s come in a few different coloured vinyl versions, all with a varying degree of numbers.

30. Dimmu Borgir – Eonian (Super Deluxe Boxset)
11/05/2018
This is the first album I’ve listened to from Dimmu Borgir, so forgive my ignorance. As a starting point to their discography, I found it a good listen, the right blend of blistering guitar, vocals and synths. However where they really shine is this deluxe packaging for their new album, Eonian. The double album presents on a crisp clear vinyl, including a 12” x 12” booklet with lyrics, photos and credits, a CD Digipak Edition with bonus demos CD is included in the Eonian Super Deluxe Boxset.

31. Nightwish – Decades
16/03/2018
Metal attitudes in beautiful melodic symphonies, Nightwish have long forged their own style; often imitated, never duplicated. Mastermind Tuomas Holopainen is not just an excellent and unique composer; he is open to new influences and eager to experiment with the unknown. This 3 x LP dives head first into the band’s last 20 years with a best of work called entitled, Decades. Housed in a sublime black vinyl box, it is a must have for any symphonic metal admirer.

32. Alter Bridge - Live At the Albert Hall (3 x LP)
7/09/2018
3 x LP, coloured variants available. In October of 2017, Alter Bridge played the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London for two very special headline shows. Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips treated the capacity crowds to selections from their entire musical catalogue. The set list included some of the band’s biggest hits; rarities and even a few songs the band had never previously performed live. Adding another career first for the band, Alter Bridge was joined on stage by conductor Simon Dobson and the 52-piece Parallax Orchestra. As stated before, live music, recorded well translates to a vinyl audio experience like none other (other than being there, dick!) and this album captures it all. Superb.

33. Avenged Sevenfold - The Stage (Deluxe Edition)
12/01/2018
The Stage was a great album from 2016 and two years on gets the deluxe treatment via a 4 x LP pressing. Yes, it’s huge. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl the deluxe edition includes new original song "Dose," six cover songs and four unreleased live tracks "The Stage," "Paradigm," "Sunny Disposition," and "God Damn" recorded at The O2 in London. All in a very cool packaging and 11 months on you can track down for a very decent price.

34. Accept - Symphonic Terror
14/12/2018
A 3 x LP unique, 2 hour ACCEPT show recorded at Wacken 2017, where the band played the biggest and most extraordinary show of their career in front of 80.000 live fans at the festival. Divided into three parts, the first showcasing new Accept tracks, 'Die By The Sword' and 'Koolaid', as well as some of their most popular songs. This was followed by guitarist Wolf Hoffmann accompanied by a symphony orchestra, presenting a best-of from his recent solo album Headbangers Symphony, which includes metal versions of some of the world‘s biggest classical compositions (e.g. from Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi,...). Finally, the full band join the festivities for more Accept classic culminating with an 8 minute version of their eminent hit 'Balls To The Walls'. A great live Accept album for the Christmas stocking. What more could you want?

35. Immortal - Northern Chaos Gods
27/07/2018
Whilst I’m not a massive black metal fan I can appreciate a cool vinyl boxset and Immortal have thrown together a cool little package that includes; a digipak CD, Picture Disc Vinyl, LP slipmat, poster, photo card and patch. Now what dark angel or titan wouldn’t want that?

36. Chris Cornell – Chris Cornell
16/11/2018
I wish they had gone further with this “mini” retrospective of Chris Cornell’s music as it has some glaring omissions. Saying that, this compilation of Chris Cornell’s career covering Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and his solo works is still stellar. This 2 LP set includes; 2 x 180gram audiophile black LPs, 17 tracks highlighting Chris’ astonishing career with 2 unreleased recordings all housed in a gatefold jacket with limited edition custom die-cut slipcase that showcases Seattle via the tree-line graphics on front and various cities Chris lived in through his life on the back. Limited to initial manufacturing run, it also includes a 12-page booklet with unreleased photos and liner notes by Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Tom Morello, Mike McCready and Brendan O’Brien.

37. Anthrax - Kings Among Scotland
2/11/2018
Featuring a 16 page tour booklet and a tour set list of tracks across 3 x LP’s with a screen printed Side F. The album also comes in a few variants, so track down your favourite colour and go from there. Personally not a massive Joey Belladonna fan but his voice is in fine form this tour and it translates well to vinyl. A great collection to any thrash fan’s collection.

38. Rage Against the Machine - Live and Rare
7/12/2018
A Record Store Day release but enough manufactured no to be too rare a find for the average vinyl collector. Originally released only in Japan in 1997, this collection of live and demo tracks is now available for the first time on vinyl. It includes fiery versions of "Take The Power Back" and "Bombtrack," covers of N.W.A.'s "Fuck Tha Police" and Public Enemy's "Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos" (with Chuck D on lead vocals) and tracks from the band's original 1991 demo tape. Presented on a double vinyl, what’s not to like?!

This is really for the Opeth fan that has to have it all. Saying that, it’s Opeth, so it’s worth every cent. A 4 x 10'' Vinyl LP reproduction of the band’s album, Sorceress. Also contain a 10'' sized version of the album booklet all housed in a cool box.

40. Slash with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators – Living the Dream
21/09/2018
This package would be Top 5 but for the bad reason that I can’t find a copy of this package anywhere in the world except for those already owning it and unwilling to part with. Enter sad face. Simply put – pre-order people! Anyways, if you fluke a copy of this package of Slash’s latest album it is amazing. Including is a limited edition Deluxe Premium 2LP Yellow Vinyl within a Premium “Living The Dream” Vinyl-size 20 page Hardback Book, an exclusive one- sided 7” single of “Driving Rain” featuring an etching on the B-side with a special set of SLASH guitar picks, Standard Digital and Physical CD album, poster as well as a limited-edition T-shirt and Hoodie. Wow, just wow. Insert jaw drop.
