Ahhh festivals.
The brilliant day out of music discovery alongside surprise experiences and collaborations which no one saw coming and a big one happened yesterday at Good Things Festival in Brisbane when New Found Glory teamed up with pop sensation Amy Shark for a secret set at the Garage stage (located a short distance from Stage 666 for those playing at home).
Intrigued fans turned out and were met with a banner reading Who Found Amy before the "garage" doors opened up and revealed New Found Glory ready to tear into a three-song set, but lucky attendees lost their minds when Amy Shark appeared and helped the band belt out their cover of Sixpence None The Richer's 'Kiss Me', an eccentric delivery of 'Hit Or Miss' from 1999's Nothing Gold Can Stay album and then wrapping it all up with the pop punk anthem 'My Friends Over You'.
No stranger to the pop punk scene, Amy has released collab singles with each member of blink-182 and cut her teeth in the local live music circuit on the Gold Coast playing pop punk covers in her formative years as a musician.
We caught up with both parties backstage during our marathon day of interviews and it was revealed the collaboration was planned with only 48 hours notice - BUT, it was also revealed Amy was set to play guitar while touring with New Found Glory around the world (while Chad Gilbert was battling cancer) a few years back, but she had to pull out due to signing on for Australian Idol judging commitments.
Imagine how sick that would have been.
The vibe was sick, it truly felt like an old school 90s floor show and both NFG and Sharky were having the time of their lives. Four Year Strong guitarist Dan O'Connor was also present as he's been filling in for Gilbert on the band's touring cycle.
All will be revealed in our interview rollout over the next few days/weeks. But what a moment. Did you catch it?
