This year has been a crazy one for me as I began to pursue my passion for live music. I tackled this by attempting to do things I’ve always wanted to do, and I’ve somehow found myself in a position I would not have seen myself last year. I am now working with Wall of Sound; I am a vocalist in training, and I now have experience shooting shows and slinging merch. I feel so involved in this welcoming scene and it’s due to the support of far too many people to name. Combining this with the return of international and local acts to the live stage, has created an amazing 2022 and I’m excited to see where things go from here.

BEST GIG YOU CAUGHT THIS YEAR?

Australian Gig: Future Static at Northcote Social Club, supported by Revoid, The Motion Below and Silver Fang. I knew I had to catch this first headliner since Amariah Cook joined the band, after I cried through the playthrough of unreleased track 'Chemical Lobotomy' when Future Static supported Jinjer a week prior. At the headline, they dedicated the song to me and it was a truly special moment I will treasure through all gig memories.

International Gig: Good Things Festival 2022, favourite set goes to Bring Me the Horizon when I ugly cried during 'Follow You' and all-time favourite song 'Drown'.

FAVOURITE CONTRIBUTION YOU PRODUCED?

My review of Electric Callboy's first ever Australian show. It is also my third review overall with Wall of Sound as well as first international band review. This piece will forever hold a special spot for me for those reasons. I also got to work with my gig friend and Electric Callboy superfan @_just_bad who took some fantastic photos too! Check it out here!

FAV NEW BAND/MUSICIAN DISCOVERED IN 2022

Future Static has challenged everything I know about heavy music and taken it up a notch. They kill it live and if their last two singles are anything to go by, their debut album is going to be insane.

NEXT BIG AUSSIE ACT TO WATCH IN 2023

Polaris have dominated the Australian metalcore scene consistently with both albums The Mortal Coil and The Death of Me. With the recent announcement of work commencing on LP 3 I won’t be surprised if this release/tour package is a heavy hitter of 2023.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2023?

It’s late 2022 but there’s already so much going on in 2023. Thy Art is Murder’s huge Australian tour, Knotfest’s Australian debut, My Chemical Romance’s return to Australia and CVLTFEST 2023 are just some of the upcoming live shows next year to be keen for. I’m beyond excited to see what Bring Me The Horizon, Triple Kill,Polaris, RedHook and Future Static bring out next year regarding new music. I’m keen to see the growth of Wagga Wagga locals Artifact. I’ve been good mates with them and a long-time supporter of them and being able to go to shows with them this year has led to some of my favourite experiences.

I’m so stoked to develop my writing with Wall of Sound and improve my vocals to achieve my dreams of becoming a vocalist. This year I’ve realised a lot of dreams in the music scene, in 2023 I will kick even more goals.
