2022 was a complete whirlwind of a year for me, I did the most writing I think I've ever done in the 6 years I've been a journalist, I travelled to the US for the first time, and did my first overseas trip since the dreaded c-word hit us! It's been an amazing year musically and professionally for me, and I'm looking forward to what 2023 brings.

BEST GIG YOU CAUGHT THIS YEAR?

Aussie Band – It was an incredibly emotional show, and also my 18th time seeing the band, but With Confidence were the best Aussie band I’ve seen this year. It was their farewell show as they’ve decided to call it quits on their time as a band, and it just had such an incredible energy to the show. There’s something about a sold out Corner Hotel screaming lyrics to some of the bands greatest hits to send them off!

International Band – By far, the best international gig I went to see this year was Rammstein at the Los Angeles Colosseum back in September. I’m not going to lie, Electric Callboy ALMOST took this out as their sideshow at Maxx Watt’s was insane BUT, the older German gentleman came out on top. It was my first ever time seeing Rammstein live, and they definitely did NOT disappoint. It was worth the flights and accommodation to go all the way to the US to see them.

FAVOURITE CONTRIBUTION YOU PRODUCED?

This was definitely really hard to pick as professionally, 2022 has been a big year for me. However, doing a poll of my nearest and dearest, the unanimous verdict was the interview I did with Derek DiScanio of State Champs! I’ve been a huge fan of these guys since I was introduced to them back in 2017 by a radio show, so getting this opportunity was a huge one for me. Derek is also one of the loveliest humans on planet earth as well, so that definitely helped!

FAV NEW BAND/MUSICIAN DISCOVERED IN 2022

My favourite band I discovered this year is definitely Starcrawler. I like jumping onto interviews and reviews for bands that I haven’t necessarily come across before, or haven’t done a deep dive into, and I’m so glad I did jump on this one. Starcrawler are a fabulous rock band based out of LA, and not only are they fantastic musicians, I got to chat with vocalist Arrow De Wilde and guitarist Henri Cash back in September and they were positively lovely!

NEXT BIG AUSSIE ACT TO WATCH IN 2023

Adelaide based rockers alt. have been grinding away for a few years, but after their recent signing to both Resist Records and SharpTone Records and making it to the 'big leagues', 2023 is looking like it's going to be a big one!

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2023

2023 is the year that I FINALLY, finally get to see My Chemical Romance after what has seemed like never ending postponements due to the pandemic. But come March, I'll be there, living my best emo kid life! Avenged Sevenfold have also been teasing new music, so hopefully we get to hear that next year, and we also get new a Pierce The Veil album. It's going to be a wonderful year for new music (I hope!), and I can't wait to grow even more professionally.
