Oh my gosh! Trophy Eyes have just released a new track through Hopeless Records! 'Blue Eyed Boy' comes over a year after their previous single 'Nobody Said', and to say we are waiting patiently for a new album is an understatement. Their last body of work was released in 2018 and since then the band have been drip feeding us (amazing) songs.
'Blue Eyed Boy' though is the perfect mix of the gritty Trophy Eyes we love from older years and the synth-rock Trophy Eyes from more recent years. The juxtaposition between the vulnerable lyrics and the upbeat music is the band's signature and they just do it so well.
On the track, vocalist John Floreani says,
"Blue Eyed Boy was written about a trip I took back to my hometown.
One friend in particular, maybe my best friend, had recently moved back and regressed into their old ways. I’d mourned the death of this friend long ago, as did the rest of us in our small social circle. To see him again brought me great childhood joy yet simultaneously an overwhelming sense of dread.
I was reminded of something my mother told me as a young boy when my grandmother died: 'if you see her now, like this, it’s the only way you’ll remember her. Best hold on to the good times, you’ll always have those.'"
I have a feeling we should all stay tuned for more news from the band this year.
