Good Charlotte Revival Looms As The Band Announces Eighth Studio Album with New Single 'Rejects'

Few bands have been as formative to the scene as Maryland pop-punkers, Good Charlotte. In fact, they are the very reason I started writing about music.
With a career spanning decades and a catalogue that has soundtracked many hair dying sessions, bad tattoos, and the generation of retaliation, there is a simple pleasure to be seen as the band grows up alongside the very audience they raised. Today, they step back into the spotlight after months of teasing and rumours with the announcement of their eighth studio album Motel Du Cap - set for release on August 8th via Atlantic Records.
The band’s freshly shared record rises from the grave of an almost seven-year gap between major musical projects. However, that’s not to ignore the massive milestones happening outside of the band, with a particular focus on the Madden Brothers' many ventures aiming to delve deeper and contribute to an accessible music scene. From side-projects, appearances on Australia's The Voice, to building their own media and artist conglomerate over at MDDN - the hustle never stopped for Benji and Joel - who have reunited with bassist Paul Thomas and guitarist/keys Billy Martin for the next era of their pop punk empire.
Our first taste comes in the form of 'Rejects' which is a slow jam, woe is me anthem which harks back to the outfit's earlier releases; in that they're singing about parents not wanting them and finding solace in other rejects called friends. It sounds like modern Good Charlotte singing songs for the youth of today (in their late 40s) and wouldn't feel out of place on their debut self-titled release, which dropped 25 years ago. The song is accompanied by a Claymation music video which features the protagonist going on a trip (you'll see) and joining others at a Good Charlotte concert. It's a positive return, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they expand on their sound and progression with the next single.
The new dawn has arrived and our eyes and ears are fixated on what the band do next - hopefully including a trip back down under for the first time since their 2018 Download Fest appearance and headline sideshows.
