Stepson Sink Their Teeth In 'Venom' As They Deliver A Deadly Dose Of Heavy

When an established band decides to explore a new direction or intensify a particular aspect of their sound, it can be a risky move. As metal fans, we’re often set in our ways and difficult to satisfy, which understandably might make musicians second-guess their pursuit of growth and evolution in their songwriting and musicianship.
After ten years as an established act, Stepson, who are generally known for their blend of melodic hooks, moody choruses and heavy breakdowns, have proven their artistic capabilities are not bound by these styles as they release their heaviest song to date titled ‘Venom’.
On the new track, bassist/vocalist Jayden Ridley shares:
“When we started, we were heartbroken kids writing music trying to understand why we had been hurt or left behind. Now we're older and we're not those sad kids looking to understand those emotions. We understand them now and we're angry. I think Venom showcases just that. It's a song for those who are pissed off by how they’ve been treated, and we’re not scared of being the villain anymore.”
Seemingly, vocalist Brock Alan Conry has honed in on his low end vocals as he goes on to deliver some of the gnarliest growls we are yet to hear from the frontman. Layered guitar riffs and fast paced drum fills set the tone for the thematically dark message with lyrics such as “Take me out from this fucking disease / I‘ve been crying for help / No more I’m begging you please”.
This impressive piece of musicianship is sure to mark an exciting new era for the Brisbane based act as they step into their second decade as a band, giving us plenty more to look forward to in the future.
