Bloom Blast Into Your Ears with New Single ‘Withered’ and Sophomore Album Announcement

‍Bloom are on top of their game and have been for years now. Since their 10/10 debut LP Maybe In Another Life, their sincere take on melodic hardcore has taken over the world. I’m still spinning their last single ‘The Works Of You’ on repeat, and I’ve been eagerly anticipating their next era since Bloom announced they were diving into the studio for LP 2. I felt blessed to be among the first to hear a taste of this when the band performed at a sold out Forum farewell for Void of Vision. We were told LP 2 would be out this year, and ‘Withered’ went so hard live. The rest of the world can now chase the light that is Bloom’s next era. ‘Withered’ is out now and is our first peak into the newly announced sophomore album The Light We Chase.

“Eight years of my life” is the lyric that opens this single and recurs throughout. Even on the night of ‘Withered’s’ live debut, it was chanted due to it’s ability to hook dark claws into listeners. The emotion in Bloom’s songwriting strikes a chord with their fans, in this case inviting passionate reflections on why we’re here. You can put your everything into something, juggling dedication and desolation as you wonder “was my dream worthless?” I can feel it in my heart during that final breakdown, as Bloom comment on themselves directly with “withered me, never bloomed”.

On the album, drummer Jack Van Vliet shares:

“In many ways, the album is an oxymoron, You can’t catch light in your hands, and you can’t have darkness without the light casting its shadow. We all have an idea of something perfect. A memory, a vision of the future, a light at the end of the tunnel. The Light We Chase is that perfection. The sublime. The taste of something good. Our widest exploration of how far metalcore can be pushed and shaped, this album is lyrically diverse as it is instrumentally.”

I love Bloom because their emotive performances and powerful songwriting makes me well up often. They touch on my emotions unlike any other band, and ‘Withered’ is no different. The first taste of The Light We Chase is simply incredible, and this album is now my most highly anticipated album of 2025.
