Lorna Shore
170 Russell, Melbourne VIC
December 3, 2025
Support: Disentomb and Gravemind

Lorna Shore is a band name that strikes awe in deathcore circles and earns respect from fans and peers around the world. Their blend of technical brutality, sweeping orchestral elements and relentless heaviness has thrusted them from underground obscurity to genre-defining heavyweights. So it’s no wonder their Good Things sideshow, potentially the final chance for Australian fans to witness the deathcore titans up close in such an intimate manner, sold out the very day tickets dropped. The opportunity to stand within arms reach of the New Jersey based deathcore heavy-hitters felt unmissable amongst those active within Melbourne’s thriving heavy music scene.

As I arrived at Melbourne’s long-standing 170 Russell with no surprise at being welcomed by an extraordinarily large line to enter the building, which moved at a reasonable pace, giving me enough time to find a good spot to catch one of Melbourne’s most prospective future heavy music exports, Gravemind, begin the nights festivities. As the locals opened with ‘Lifelike’, it became obviously apparent that this group offers a live performance which is destined for greater things. Frontman Bailey Schembri, who offers a stage presence akin to Chelsea Grin’s Tom Barber, stood front and centre on a platform, elevating him higher than his band mates, with such confidence and calmness, it almost seemed as if his abilities are second nature to him, and require little to no strenuous effort to exert his voice. With their band name boldly displayed on the visualiser behind them, the instrumentalists follow Schembri’s lead and execute their roles with competency of the highest level, working together like a well-oiled machine to achieve a performance which places the band years ahead of where they currently are in their careers. Their on-stage abilities, tied in with a world class production, breaches upon the standard of an internationally touring headline act.

Brisbane based brutal death metal act Disentomb took to the stage next to display their dissonant and chaotic riff heavy sound. With relentless ferocity, vocalist Jordan James paced the stage from left to right, and back again with a savagely feral expression upon his face as he spat venom into the mic. Their consistent fast-paced, low-tuned sound left drummer Henri Sison beating his drum kit as if it owed him money, which was a visually appealing display of talent to behold. Although I generally don’t consider myself as much of a fan of brutal death metal, this class act won me over as a new fan, and I am looking forward to catching their next performance having learnt their back-catalogue of tracks.

Finally, the moment to witness the technical prowess of the sonic force that is Lorna Shore had arrived and the excited energy that rippled through the tightly packed crowd of excited deathcore fans was electric. As the clock struck 9:30pm, a deafening cheers that could be heard on the busy Melbourne streets above this underground venue arose from within at the sheer sight of the deathcore quintet. As the group opened with ‘Oblivion’ in front of an impressive display of visuals on the stage’s visualiser, the crowd of individuals who were seemingly chomping at the bit to soak in every moment of this set, didn’t allow the fact that it was a Wednesday night stop them from expressing their endless love for the group by participating to the nth degree with sing-alongs that left my ears ringing well into the next day.

As the set progressed, the band performed old and new tracks of the bands ‘Ramos era’, including personal favourite ‘Sun//Eater’ where the groups personal photographer, Nick Chance took a moment to let his abilities to shine as he joined the group on stage as a guest vocalist. Although impressive, Chance simply couldn’t match the unstoppable energy of vocalist Will Ramos who just like Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali and Usain Bolt, is considered to be amongst the best in the world at what he does. With the stamina of a sled dog, Ramos, backed by the otherworldly guitar skills of Adam De Micco, the skillful drumming capabilities of Austin Archey and co powered through fast faced tracks such as ‘Cursed To Die’ and ‘Into The Earth’, but still managed to maintain intensity through slower ballad ‘Glenwood, which offered contrast to the band who are known for their fast pace and intensity.

As the set wrapped up with the groups most notable track ‘To The Hellfire’, the continuous feeding of energy between band and crowd peaked, with a sense of chaotic unruliness that overwhelmed the senses, leaving me needing to catch my breath with some fresh air. However, before I could do so, the group returned, announcing that they had a three song encore, so I maintained my position within the crowd to admire the group in all their glory as they performed the ‘Pain Remains’ trilogy.

Like an itch that I managed to scratch after far too long, witnessing Lorna Shore live in action is a spectacle that satisfies the senses. The artistry of one of modern metal’s most formidable acts in such a small-scale setting with an arena-scale production simply has to be seen to be believed. If you haven’t already, get yourself a Good Things ticket and gift yourself the unforgettable experience of a Lorna Shore performance.
