If you find yourself spinning the same emo classics from the mid-late ‘00s and you want something new to wet your palette, then Adelaide band Wolf & Chain are a must listen. The theatrical rockers are back with their new single ‘Phantom’ and their current take on that nostalgic emo sound is the sonic refresh you must get around.
The last few years have been busy for the young band. The success of their EPs An Honest Mistake and Amor Mortal led to them supporting big acts like Black Veil Brides, Creeper, Short Stack and Between You and Me, as well as touring with Terra and AM//PM.
Wolf & Chain have been building a cult following with their brand of dark, theatrical punk rock and energetic live shows. If you have had the pleasure of seeing them live, you can vouch for how they are able to take over a room and leave everybody who bears witness wanting more.
Their latest single ‘Phantom’ follows their June release ‘Ashes’ and it draws inspiration from a transformative experience the band experienced when they spent time to immerse themselves in the creative process at a secluded farm. The band members fell ill, during which they encountered a dark, looming presence, that influenced their songwriting and brought to life this new track. Its pop-driven melody is infectious, with a slow build that immediately draws you in. Vocalist Jack Cumes’ has an almost sultry tone to his voice, dancing over a muted guitar riff that serenades you into a hard rocking chorus. Perfectly produced and probably one of the band's most refined and mature-sounding tracks to date, this band is truly one to watch.
