Well it's that time of the year where the Australian Recording Industry Association gets together to see who they think is the best of the best in the country by releasing the nominations for the ARIA Awards. Now most years these nominees are announced they seem to get it wrong with the wrong acts in the wrong categories, however we're quite impressed with the selection up for the Award this year. And no we won't be going into detail about how many nods 5 Seconds of Summer received, instead we'll focus on the best music in the Best Rock Album and Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album categories.

Starting with Best Rock Album, the nominees are:

Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit[/caption]

The Preatures - Blue Planet Eyes[/caption]

Dead Letter Circus - Aesthesis[/caption]

Gang of Youths - The Positions[/caption]

Tame Impala - Currents[/caption]

Judging by the array of musicians in this category we'll bet Tame Impala will walk away with the award (even though we think Dead Letter Circus deserve it more)

And surprisingly the nominees in the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album category are actually pretty good:

Northlane - Node[/caption]

Born Lion - Final Words[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2102" align="alignleft" width="165"]

In Hearts Wake - Skydancer[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2103" align="alignleft" width="164"]

King Parrot - Dead Set[/caption]

Thy Art is Murder - Holy War[/caption]

This one is a bit harder to try and guess as these bands all released great pieces of work. I myself would love to see In Hearts Wake or Northlane take it out, however just to spice things up, wouldn't it be great if King Parrot or Thy Art is Murder collected the award on the night!?

Unfortunately none of the heavier bands will be allowed to perform on the night because apparently the Australian public don't like heavy music (ha!) so we'll probably have to read about who won the Heavy Rock Award because they also don't televise the winner either. Maybe things will change this year, but don't hold your breath. The awards take place on Thursday November 26th.

Congrats to all the (decent) nominees \m/

Until next time, rock the fuck out
