Florida’s favourite violincredible pop alt-rockers Yellowcard have showcased that they are living their Better Days with new single ‘Take What You Want’ – devotees should be compelled to start “rushing in”, this track is highly strung.

Not to be confused with the 2019 song by the recently retired Prince Of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne featuring Post Malone, Yellowcard have exhibited pragmatic pop-rock perfection with ‘Take What You Want’. The composition completes a tremendous trilogy of singles in support of the band’s 11th studio album Better Days, due for release Friday, October 10th 2025 through Better Noise Music.

The eponymous track ‘Better Days’ was the world’s introduction to the newest full-length, featuring a heavier and darker rock sound with a charming counteractive positivity in its lyrical message. The follow-up (to some extent) ‘honesty i’ broadcasted a throwback punk drive that recalled the youthful energised days of the third LP One For The Kids impeccably. Astonishingly and deservedly, both songs have amassed over four million streams since their unveiling on May 28th, 2025.

‘Take What You Want’ pursues a different soundscape to its predecessors, with a more glistening pop shine of immeasurable infectiousness as its magnificent motif. Beginning with the punchy percussion and iconic flanger drum-fill effect that Blink-182’s Travis Barker executes flawlessly, and brought to fame as a drummer and producer (Mr. Barker wore both of these hats for the new Yellowcard LP), the instrumentation is excellently accentuated by the pop-choir-chant: “Oh oh oh oh…” that is honestly impossible not to engage with and sing-along to. It is a marvellous misdirect of sorts, as the single could be headed in an electronica-pop or even drum and bass trajectory, but there’s only one “place on Ocean Avenue” for an alt-pop-rock-punk outfit of this distinction, and this is undeniably a Yellowcard anthem.

Vocalist/guitarist Ryan Key kicks in at the 10-second mark with: “I’ll come running if you tell me to”, which is more-than-likely what the quartet’s (and genre’s) admirers would instantly enact if they heard this song from afar in a live-setting. The tune then amazingly assumes that “less-is-more” pop-refinement which displays the four-piece’s expertise in songwriting. At the one-and-a-half-minute juncture, a remarkable rustic violin/percussion combination interlude transforms the single courtesy of Sean Mackin and Travis – this is where Ryan’s vocals sensationally soar: “How did I get so deep? You never cared about me.

These 11 words incredibly invade the minds and souls of the listeners; unquestionably, this will echo in vitality for years to come.

The chorus recommences in astounding grandeur as the “oh ohs” chime in entrancingly again, the composition then reaches a charismatic climactic peak before delightfully descending into a breathtaking minimalist closing, with only Mr. Key delicately articulating the second part of the chorus in an acoustic arrangement.

As the frontman and guitarist describes: “The new track ‘Take What You Want’ really captures the amazing energy of these sessions with Travis Barker producing. The drums immediately pull you in, and the melodies are so focused and memorable”.

Ryan elaborates further, crediting Barker with a monumental influence on his personal and creative studio breakthroughs: “I started the record as one version of myself and came out the other side changed,” he discloses -“I went in knowing I needed help. I came out of it writing songs like I was 19 again.”

The pop-rock paradise that is ‘Take What You Want’ is undeniably pioneered with this brilliant belter, and one could easily imagine The Used and Anberlin rockin’ out in envy throughout these near two-and-a-half minutes. On the theme of "rockin' out", check the video which presents Yellowcard's live footage from their recent tours in Australia, Japan and Europe:

‘Take What You Want’ from this track, you will potentially revisit it over-and-over again, and gratefully escape ‘Way Away’ from the harsh realities the world is currently facing.
