Windwaker Flash Checkered Delights In New Single ‘Victory Lap’

Windwaker are undeniably one of the freshest bands in our scene, yet ironically, a band that has been flying the flag for quite some time. Despite their lengthy presence, Windwaker are ever-evolving, demonstrating the hybridity of music, and the auditory pleasure that can come from reaching beyond the confines, expelling a sound that is truly you, regardless of who listens. In their first release post the waves of, Windwaker are back for round two, perhaps with a tongue-in-cheek reflection upon the success of their creativity, ‘Victory Lap’. Filled with attitude, spunk, and that oozing Windy swagger, the band’s engines could not be more fired up!
The song begins with the signature rap flair that Windwaker have so efficiently adopted. Vocalist Liam Guinane takes the reins, as usual, infecting the scene with a palpable self-assertion and an uncanny ability to cause chaos wherever he may roam. This sneaky attitude is evident throughout the song, as the spoken verses quickly give way to heavy screams and spine-chilling utterances. The song itself is a proclamation of individuality in its most raw and unfiltered way, and is perhaps the pinnacle of Windy’s soulful and invigorated experimentation. With guitars electrifying the soundscape and synths flying through the drum beats, there is not a moment of isolation within the track. There is an orchestrated chaos in which each individual element is screaming with something to say- none less important than the last.
‘Victory Lap’ sees the vocals of Liam continue to be challenged, soaring with flying colours even when reaching the lowest crevices of the guttural being within. This comes to complete fruition within the eye (and ear) catching breakdown that completely encapsulates every fibre of your body.
Partnered with one of Colin Jeffs’ most cinematic masterpieces yet (and we all know how brilliant the current repertoire is), the track sees Windwaker star in a music video of blockbuster proportions. SWAT teams, helicopters, and a whole lot of swagger. If you didn’t already like the song, there is nothing a little visual aid can’t help with!
Although showing no signs of slowing down, Windwaker deserve to take their ‘Victory Lap’ early, with yet another assertion as to why they are one of the most unique projects within our scene and beyond.
