Traces Are Literally Unstoppable With Their Anthemic New Single 'Can't Stop Me'

Woahhh where'd this come from?! Traces have returned with their latest offering 'Can't Stop Me' which is a large scale, anthemic rock banger guaranteed to catch you off guard with just how good it is musically and lyrically.
The song itself is about overcoming self-doubt, facing and accepting the negative side of who you are and coming to terms with it and refusing to go down a bad path. We all have a side of ourselves we pretend doesn’t exist and sometimes it can overwhelm us and we don’t notice before it’s too late. It’s an anthem of rebellion, a fight against everyone’s own worst enemy which is themselves.
We just had to grab vocalist Jack Pallett from Traces for a rundown on the new track, where the band have come from and what they've got up next...
Jack, tell us all about 'Can't Stop Me', who or what inspired this one and tell us about the movement you lads created
Lyrically the song was inspired by a point in my life last year where I was in a pretty traumatic situation that messed me up pretty badly, I gave up on a lot of things in life, stopped eating properly, didn’t leave the house and stopped doing things I love. I was a mess. Like most people when you’re in a bad place you tend to spend a lot of time on the internet which strangely helped pull me out of what I was going through. I found a lot of stories of people who had overcome difficulties in their lives and it gave me hope that things might get better for me, when you have that hope you tend to force yourself to carry on. The lyrics are pretty much a note to self at that point in time.
Along with the song we also started a minor social media movement called the #cantstopmemovement which tied in thematically with the song and was a way to try and use our platform to give back and try to give hope to others like they had to me a year ago.
In comparison to previous releases, it's very different in style. How'd you come to this particular direction for the band?
Musically the song came around a long time earlier which began with the main riff in the song playing in my head. We used to jam the idea back in late 2016/early 2017 but never finished and released it because compared to what we had already released it didn’t sound like the same band. We had to release some other stuff to create context so that the change in sound didn’t seem so extreme. When we sat down to work on this release we decided to go completely DIY. We recorded, mixed and mastered the song in a bedroom at my house and filmed, edited and created all the visual elements like the music video completely ourselves independent of anyone.
You're a very DIY band, why is that so important starting out?
It was important for us to do that not only because it gives us full creative control and makes everything an authentic representation of us but also because when creating music or any kind of art, it's easy to be discouraged. Sometimes it can feel like if you don’t have the right tools, know the right people and everything it can feel like making something good is impossible. We come from a small town and in those places you often feel disadvantaged. We wanted to show people it doesn’t matter where you come from, who you are, what your background is. If you put your mind to it and work hard you can do things you might think are impossible. We at least want to try to give back what so many artists have given to us.
What's next for you lot?
Can’t Stop Me is sort of the first step in a plan we have had in the works for a while. We’ve had this plan to try and release a heap of different musical projects along with our debut album that we plan on self-producing, so it’s a huge relief to finally get the ball rolling on all of it after the setbacks we’ve had. The band is in the best place it’s been in ages and we are just really happy to have the opportunity to make music together.
Get keen, get it into you below and get all up in the world of Traces now!
