Before Sugar Spine was your favourite Aussie-come-Dutch Instagram modern metal band, they were a one-man-band in Sydney with multi-instrumental talents; a lot has evolved since 2022's Mirror Talk. Nowadays, not only does vocalist and nucleus Josh Muncke have a gorgeous maine that we both love and hate him for, but he's formed a fully-fledged four-piece band in Utrecht, with releases that are blowing up. 2023's Emerald's saw Sugar Spine saddle-up with singles like 'Hisashi' (feat. Cabal's Andreas Bjulver)' and 'Pseudo Panther'.

It was soon after this, that Muncke let loose at live shows and dropped the C-bomb on a Dutch crowd, which paved their way into the viral social media scene. This led to the official release of 'Go Outside (C**t)' that tickled the world in ways that worked so well for the band. Now signed with Prime Collective, Sugar Spine are releasing belters with members of Distant and playing shows with the likes of Breakdown of Sanity, which is simply insanity.

The next big slice of news is that the metalcore-deathcore fusion are set to release their next EP Violent Heaven on August 21. The release will include brand new single 'To Fade Quietly', featuring Chris Zuehlke of German sweethearts Half Me. The release will also include 'Chrome Coloured Ribcage' which also did the rounds on socials, with Muncke's Slipknot-esque nu-metal-come-guttural number.

'To Fade Quietly' delves into themes of nostalgia and loss, with Muncke expressing deep feelings of despair and the fading of childhood dreams. The track blends the band's heavy custom riffs with Muncke's raw lyrical vulnerability in the form of brutal uncleans; we also get a glimpse of his gorgeous singing in between. There's mathcore chaos, modern metalcore emotion and instrumental style, and of course Sugar Spine's unique sub-genre of their own.

On the single, he shares:

“Honestly, I was full of despair when writing this track. The inevitability that our childhood dreams and memories fade over time is really depressing, and so I'm mourning what we had as kids, knowing that we'll never get the dreams and memories back. Having Chris (Half Me) on this track is really special as well; we've grown really close together in such a short time, and his addition to the song is perfect.”

Violent Heaven promises to deliver more of the intensely personal songwriting and relentless energy that Sugar Spine has become known for.
