Short Stack Announce New Album + Drop Breakup Anthem 'Love You Like I Used To'

"There was a tension between the band that we wanted to be and the band that other people around us wanted to be...”

We know the story, we've seen the boys prevail with their new direction and now Short Stack will show us what they've been working on when their new album Maybe There’s No Heaven gets released on February 25, 2022. The ten-track record marks Shaun Diviney, Bradie Webb and Andy Clemmensen's first full length release in six years, following 2015's Homecoming and their first on new label UNFD.

In the past they had representatives and suits dictating the kind of music they had to make and now, the control is back in their hands as frontman Shaun Diviney told us exclusively back in March:

“When the chance came to sign to UNFD, they championed Architects and Amity pretty hard, we were like ‘well that’s pretty sick’, that’s kinda where we’re drawing a lot of influence at the moment… the beauty of being signed to UNFD [is]… this is the kind of record I always wanted to make and it’s awesome I get to do it with them”

So far we've seen singles ‘Burn You Down‘ and 'Live4' showcasing a new rockier direction for the band, but their latest balladesque offering 'Love You Like I Used To' hones in on their pop roots with a more mature approach to their songwriting. According to the trio, yep, it's definitely a breakup track:

"We wrote it as a sad party anthem - almost like an anthem for breakups. We approached the song very differently to any other song we’ve ever worked on. It took several days to get it 'right' because we knew there was something special there, we just needed to find the right way to bring it to life.”

Grab the tissues, you may need them. With the enw album announced, the boys can't wait to get stuck into playing shows again with a big Australian Tour on the cards and their appearance at UNIFY 2022 (don't forget the #SwaySwayCirclePit gang!!!). There's plenty on offer for new and longterm Stack fans and the boys stated their new album is dedicated to those who helped and supported them along the way:

“As much as we were writing the album that we 100% wanted to write, we were also writing for those fans that have been there for us… they’re the only reason that we get to do this. We didn’t think we’d have the opportunity to do this again and we are just super grateful that we can.”

Stack is back, baby!
