PREMIERE: CHEZ Reclaims the Ride-Or-Die Narrative with Empowering 'Bonnie & Clyde'

The Aussie alt-pop scene is continuing to grow with exciting new and growing acts worthy of your time and attention.

One outfit that's fast becoming hot property in the genre is CHEZ who has scored a stack of praise for alluring performances following shared stage experiences with the likes of Simple Plan, Stand Atlantic, Set It Off, Taylor Acorn and the delectable PVRIS.

CHEZ's authentic, raw and powerful messaging has won over fans since first debuting on the scene only a couple of years ago and she's not slowing down in her mission to make you rethink the world around you. This assertiveness caught the eye of the now SOLD OUT Hellbound Cruise - where CHEZ will leave her mark alongside fellow scene queens like The Beautiful Monument, Monique Pym from Reliqa, and Amariah and Kira from Future Static.

“It means everything. To be part of such a prestigious line up of stellar Aussie acts is a bucket list moment. Being picked for a festival has always been a dream of mine as an artist and for it to be happening on a boat and on Hellbound?! It doesn’t feel real!!"

Keeping the wheels turning following the grand offer, CHEZ returns today to premiere the brand new single 'Bonnie & Clyde' - and all expectations should be thrown out before listening.

This isn't your typical ride-or-die love song, but more so an empowering take back the narrative and... well, instead of me explaining what it's all about, I'm handing over the woman in power herself, to take you behind the lyrics and messaging of her new anthem.

Take it away, Chez!

"I used to think being the “ride-or-die” girl was the goal. That if you loved someone hard enough, fought for them fiercely enough, stuck around through the chaos – they’d do the same for you. Blame it on Hollywood or Tumblr quotes, but something about that chaos and loyalty of Bonnie & Clyde felt so romantic to me. Two broken people against the world? Sign me up.

But now, years (and a few heartbreaks) later, I’m realising how dangerous that fantasy actually is – especially for those who have been taught loving hard means losing ourselves in the process.

Enter 'Bonnie & Clyde'—my new single.

It’s about owning your flaws and refusing to make someone else pay for them. It’s not a love song; it’s an anti-fairytale. No getaway car. No tragic ending. It’s about breaking patterns we were taught to idolise—because chaos isn’t chemistry, and choosing yourself isn’t selfish, it’s survival.

When I wrote this song, I wasn’t trying to romanticise that kind of love, I was trying to unravel it. I think it’s important to remind the baddies that they don’t need ‘…no Bonnie & Clyde.' You don’t have to hurt to be loved. And you definitely don’t need to play the martyr to be worthy of a good story.

Some of my favourite artists—Billie Eilish, UPSAHL and even Taylor Swift in her Reputation-era—have all peeled back the idea that self-sacrifice is strength.

In 'Happier Than Ever', Billie doesn’t just walk away from toxic love—she roars out of it. UPSAHL’s 'People I Don’t Like' embraces unapologetic self-awareness, rejecting performative likability. And Taylor’s 'I Did Something Bad' flips the script completely, reclaiming power in a world that demonises those who choose themselves.

They all said no to being the muse, the fix and the one who stays no matter what. I wanted 'Bonnie & Clyde' to live in that space too. It’s vulnerable. It’s defiant. And it’s a little messy – just like me.

I think we’re done being told we’re only complete with a Bonnie or a Clyde next to us. What if you were the ride-or-die? What if being fiercely independent, a little unapproachable, and completely in your power was the whole point?

So no, 'Bonnie & Clyde' isn’t a love song. It’s a reminder—a reminder that it’s okay to walk away from the fire instead of lighting the match. That maybe the most rebellious thing you can do these days isn’t die for love – it’s live without settling for less. And maybe, just maybe, Bonnie & Clyde didn’t need each other in the first place. You can be your ride-or-die.

More power to the women taking control of their lives and setting up the foundations for a powerful and motivated future - kicking butt and taking names!
