Pain Body Break Onto The Aussie Scene With ‘Hymns Of Melancholy’

One of the cool things about heavy music, is there’s always people willing to work together to create something new. When successful musicians collaborate on a song, that’s great and all. But what about when they form a band together? Well let me tell you about Pain Body.
We’ve got Daniel ‘Dmac’ Macdonald of Body Prison on the mic, Jesse Beahler of Thy Art Is Murder on the kit, and on guitars we have Harrison Mills who drums for LUNE, and Chris Benson who has filled in for LUNE and Annihilist in the past.
From what I can tell, Pain Body had a release in 2021 which involved Chris and Harrison. There isn’t much to find online; their bandcamp is no longer active and it’s difficult to find their EP Guilt apart from cached mentions on web search engines. They were described as “a cutting-edge technical metal band at the forefront of the genre, combining crushing grooves with intricate guitar riffs”. Short of a tour poster here and an Instagram post there, the past of Pain Body has been carefully redacted from the internet. Social media and seemed to be pointing towards a hard reset for the band and that comes in the form of a signing with Human Warfare and a new song ‘Hymns of Melancholy’, the title track of their upcoming EP if Apple Music is anything to go by.
‘Hymns Of Melancholy’ is fast as fuck and never lifts off the accelerator. Jesse solidifies himself as one of Australia’s best drummer with breakneck speeds and groovy fills, and the intricate guitar showmanship is absolutely freaking insane. Technical melodies take the spotlight against percussive power; interwoven with Dmac’s tough as screams. Just one listen will convince you just how talented this group of individuals are.
I don’t know whether Pain Body are back, whether they’re brand new, or a melding of the two ideas. What I do know is that this band is comprised of experienced musicians who have let it be known that they’re the next thing in extreme metal.
