Nickelback's Mike Kroger wants to record a Slayer cover album and says heavy metal music is "where my heart lies"

Whether you love them, hate them or tolerate them, we all know that deep down underneath all of that safe radio rock they produce, Nickelback are fans of heavy music and have showed signs of that side of their musicianship in songs like 'Burn It To The Ground' and select songs from their latest album Feed The Machine like 'The Betrayal Act III' and the album's title track.

But what you may not have known was bassist Mike Kroeger, brother of The Chad, is a heavy metal fan, citing his love for bands like Meshuggah, Gojira, Lamb of God and the legendary Slayer and as it turns out, he wants Nickelback to record an album of heavier songs and, if time ever persisted, Slayer covers as discussed in a recent interview with our writer Genevieve Gao:

“I would love to. Metal is what makes me go, it’s what I listen to without fail. If we could actually sink in and do a metal album, all four of us would love it. I know that we’re all – on differing scales – metalheads at our core. We all know everything about the Big Four – Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. I would do a Slayer cover album if I could. That’s where my heart lies. There are just never enough hours in the day to do everything, but let’s just say I wouldn’t count it out.”

So what do you reckon? Could you put past all of the 'Photograph's, the 'Never Gonna Be Alone's, the 'How You Remind Me's and sick back, listening to a heavy metal Nickelback album OR the Slayer cover album Mike spoke about? I mean, their last album was heavier than the latest Bring Me The Horizon album so that's gotta stand for something right? And on top of all of that, they're touring with Bad Wolves who, like it or not, have some pretty decent heavy songs under their belt too.
