Meet Malia J - The Voice Behind Black Widow's Evocative 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Cover
If you're a Marvel fiend like myself, you'd be all over the new Black Widow movie which popped up in cinemas (finally) at the start of the month after being delayed due to the pandemic. FYI - It's also on Disney+ in case you hate going out in public but still want to see it before spoilers ruin everything!
On a lighter note, one of the most talked about moments (not related to the movie though) was the haunting cover of Nirvana's track 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' which plays during the movie's opening credits. If you heard it and wondered who was the voice behind the song, well, get to know her below!
Hawaiian singer-songwriter Malia J is the musician behind the cover and she's been making music for films, trailers and TV for the better part of the past four years (including The Handmaid's Tale Series Two trailer) and now she's blowing up the internet for her rendition which landed at the #1 Spot in the Top 40 Alternative Charts in the US! Malia has also landed herself a spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of her cover (not a bad outcome at all I must say).

It's not very often that a cover song comes out that grabs your attention if comes close to (if not bettering) the original. Some standouts that come to mind are Dream State's cover of Linkin Park's 'Crawling', The Amity Affliction's rendition of Lana Del Rey's 'Born To Die', ADTR doing Kelly Clarkson or Perth band Make Way For Man's excellent cover of Owl City's 'Fireflies' - which took out the #1 spot in our Heavy Covers of Non-Heavy Songs list!
Keep your eyes and ears on Malia J, I don't think this is the last we'll hear of her...
