Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong takes aim at MTV

For those interested the MTV VMA's are currently being held right now and you're going to hear a lot about how Miley Cyrus got naked and started a fight with Nicki Minaj or how Kanye West decided he's going to run for President in 2020 or something, but what you won't be hearing about is all the bands that have been absolutely killing it over the past year.

Best Rock video went to Fall Out Boy's "Uma Thurman" who were up against the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine, Hozier and "pop" act Walk the Moon. Not exactly what us heavy music fans would consider "rock" but hey it's MTV after all. One musician who has stood up for the unmentioned bands is Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong who voiced his opinion on twitter:

It's not the first time Billie Joe has voiced his opinion on events that highlight the achievements of acts like Justin Bieber over well known and established bands. Remember the time he had a "melt-down" at the I Heart Radio Music Festival?

He makes a good point, but do heavier rock bands even need to be addressed at an event like the MTV MVAs? I would love for all those hard working bands to even get a nod or acknowledgement for all their hard work over the past year but with other avenues like the Alternative Press Music Awards, should the bands we know and love stay clear or should they put up a fight like their fans do for the annual snubbing of their creative work.

Would love to know your thoughts on this one.

Until next time, rock the fuck out
