Windwaker - Gig Review & Photo Gallery 8th June @ Crowbar Brisbane, QLD

Windwaker - The EMPIRE Tour
Crowbar Brisbane, QLD
June 8th 2019
Supports: Days Like These, To Octavia, HOMEFRONT and UNI/VS
Hot off the release of their debut EP Empire (our review here!), Melbourne boys Windwaker are quickly becoming one of Australia's best new bands. To celebrate the release of Empire, the boys headed out on a quick east coast tour - Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane - and sold out the entire tour. With a killer line up of support bands each show, the EMPIRE Tour ultimately showcased some of the best up-and-comers in the country.
Brisbane boys Days Like These got the early punters at Crowbar super keen for the night ahead by jumping straight into their most recent release 'The Absolute'. I was pretty stoked that I finally caught Days Like These (I've somehow missed them every time I come to Brisbane!), as these guys show plenty of potential with their catchy songs. Although they're a little more on the pop/punk side, they also threw in a fun take on 'Youngbloods' (The Amity Affliction) to win the crowd over.
The next band that took to the stage was To Octavia, and these guys were a definite highlight of my entire night. Vocalist Matt Morris kept the crowd mesmerised throughout the entire set, providing many a crowd interaction and moshpit moments to run a riot through. The band's current single 'Made to Break' is a huge-sounding song played live - To Octavia are definitely a band to keep an eye on! Brisbane pop/punk boys HOMEFRONT were another band I was so keen to check out tonight. They played a really tight set, their live raw sound and catchy songs reminding me of some early State Champs, and even included their own take on Bring Me the Horizon's 'Medicine' to entice the more hardcore fans in the room.
Whoa - there were way too many talented as fuck bands tonight. Definitely haven't been to a gig this impressive in a while. By this point, the crowd was pretty buzzed and keeen as fuck for Windwaker to come on. Luckily, Brisbane heavyweights UNI/VS were up next to keep everyone on their toes and keen for the Windy boys. By far the heaviest band of the night, UNI/VS energized the crowd even more by throwing down their heavy as fuck anthems, creating the perfect ambience in the room for who was about to play next.
With an ever so dramatic stage entrance, Windwaker finally took to the Crowbar stage, opening with their hit single 'The Sitch'. Their whole set was amazing, from vocalist Will King's incredible vocal range to getting to hear the band play all the songs off their EP. Ending the show on the highest note with an encore of their current smash hit 'My Empire', the boys were on fire tonight and definitely deserve every ounce of success coming to them in the not-too-distant future.
