As if it couldn’t get any hotter in the Top End (it’s been an unusually DRY Wet Season this year), things are sure heating up around here. We Burn Bridges played their first show of 2019 last Friday night and things got pretty hot ‘n’ heavy. With a stacked lineup of Darwin locals playing a wide variety of alternative/rock/heavy tunes, there was a bit of something for everyone.

Assailant kicked off the night early with a pretty heavy, headbangin’ set. Not really my cup of tea, but if you’re into the likes of Slayer, you’d most likely dig these guys. Clockwork Riot spun the dial 180 degrees and gave us some good ol’ punk rock, reminiscent of 90’s Foo Fighters. Funny story, I actually thought these guys were Fat Pigeon, because the singer was wearing a “Fat Pigeon” t-shirt. Jokes on me when the real Fat Pigeon appeared on stage straight after though. They might be young as fuck, but they play metal almost as mature as a band that've been doing the rounds for years. Those boys sure know how to get a crowd riled up for the main event, because that tiny room (think garage like!) was definitely buzzing by the end of their set.

We Burn Bridges were easily the most enjoyable of the night though. The Darwin post-hardcore five-piece played an insanely short but epic set for a headlining band, but to be honest, now, they don’t have a whole lot of songs to play (yet!). The entire room were enjoying them so much though, that they were calling for an encore by the end of the night! Pretty impressive guys! Newly released single ‘Self Drought’ sounds fucking killer live (check out the video below) and now I’m even more stoked to hear the EP in May so we can know more than the one song to sing along to at future shows.
