Pavilion
Crowbar Sydney, Leichhardt NSW
September 12th, 2019
Supports: Code Atlantic & Wolf Creek

Opener Wolf Creek took to the stage with a fresh and heavy blend of nu metal. Hip hop samples, hectic bass slapping, huge riffs - you name it! - Wolf Creek powered through the set engaging the crowd to headbang and sing along. Vocalist Chase Bosward sported an enigmatic and confident charisma usually reserved for a seasoned pro like Oli Sykes.

Main support Code Atlantic followed up with their own brand of progressive/alternative metal. With a professional stage manner and a polished set, CA smashed through the set with much ease. Vocalist Matt Pearson's smooth vocal style was supported by sweet harmonies from all three backing musicians- guitarist Matt New, bassist Ben McDonough and drummer Michael White. In particular, Matt New's dynamic and effortless guitar sound was impressive, cutting through the pumping rhythm section. Set highlights included 'Illusion', and final song, 'Resistance' which ended in an extreme display of melodic, rapid musical prowess. Keen to see more from these guys in future!

Brisbane metalheads Pavilion took to the stage with a commanding stage presence, smashing through their uncatalogued of currently-unreleased tunes, in support of their single 'Hellfire'. The riff-heavy outfit sport huge breakdowns and a huge sound that metalcore & classic heavy metal fans alike can appreciate.

Calling to mind the musical prowess of Avenged Sevenfold and the energy of Metallica, Pavilion's intense live show featured 16th/8th note chugs-a-plenty, roaring vocals from Peter Muldoon and dual-guitar solos from both Pete & lead guitarist Michael Fabricato that one can't help but hold up metal-horns for.

Despite a small-turnout of enthusiastic fans, the band still thanked the crowd for sticking around for their first NSW show. Banter about football teams followed - both State of Origin & NRL (Drummer Pete Hart is a roosters fan, while bassist Dave is a Parramatta supporter). A heavier cover of Guns 'n' Roses classic 'Paradise City' summoned headbanging and singing along from the Thursday night crowd. The band finished up the evening with a strong and confident rendition of single 'Hellfire', and 'Scars', which the band dedicated to 'R U OK Day', with each member of the band following vocalist Pete with some kind words.

In the lead up to the band's first official release, Pavilion absolutely brought their A-game which will translate well to stages around the country on their current tour - be sure to catch a show!
