I Killed The Prom Queen
Northcote Theatre, Melbourne VIC
October 4th, 2025
Supports: Emmure, To The GraveThreshold

The energy at Northcote Theatre last night was palpable; buzzing with the long-awaited feeling of seeing I Killed The Prom Queen after so many years. It felt less like a concert and more like a necessary reunion of Australia's formative metalcore band. They are a powerful reminder of Australia's vital signs when it comes to heavy music.

Kicking off the first of two sold out shows were local hardcore heroes Threshold who absolutely annihilated their set, with a raw and unrelenting performance. The band delivered some of their biggest tracks while deliveirng a masterclass in modern heavy aggression. The supports were vegan veterans To The Grave. The boys slayed harder than your local butcher. Their set was a brutal, visceral clinic in deathcore precision, made even sweeter by the surprising addition of a blistering cover of Suicide Silence's 'Unanswered.' Following, Emmure proved once again why they are a juggernaut of groove and menace. Even with guitarist Joshua Travis and bassist Phil Lockett called away for the high-profile Tony Tapdance Extravaganza reunion shows in the UK, Frankie Palmeri and fill-ins from The Gloom In The Corner laid down a foundation of bone-rattling mosh metalcore that left the crowd breathless.

Finally, punters got to view an ageing-yet-immortal rendition from our very own I Killed The Prom Queen. The boys took the stage, delivering a flawless and triumphant set. Michael Crafter was in his finest form, and a charismatic and explosive frontman after warming up with Parkway Drive across arenas last yea. JJ Peters absolutely smashed the kit, providing the foundation for the chaos.

The night peaked with the return of newly minted U.S. citizen Jona Weinhofen, who had an unforgettable, heartwarming moment, shredding his riffs with his young child perched on his shoulders during the powerful closing tracks, 'Sharks in Your Mouth' and 'Say Goodbye.' To say it was a legendary night for Australian heavy music is an understatement.
