Gang of Youths
Enmore Theatre, Sydney NSW
November 30th, 2018
For once, a Gang of Youths were reported doing great things as the Sydney locals played the last show of their Say Yes To Life Tour which was also their last of SIX shows at the infamous Enmore Theatre. Say what you will about the band but they've certainly made a huge name for themselves both in Australia and beyond and not even their recent addition to mainstream commercial radio could tarnish the indie rock we have grown to love them for.
Stand out tracks from the evening included 'What Can I Do If the Fire Goes Out?' and ''Let Me Down' Easy' which have everyone in attendance singing loud and proud (or filming on their phone) and arguably, their best performance of the night went to 'Magnolia' which showcased just how far these guys have progressed as musicians and even had the whole crowd singing choir-like in a strange, yet comfortingly inclusive way.
The tear-inducing speech frontman David Le’aupepe shared with us all about his father before busting into 'The Heart Is A Muscle' had those in close proximity (with partners) holding them closer than before and it should also be pointed out for a guy with an incredibly soothing voice, the guy swears like a sailor, much to the approval of everyone in attendance.
The show ended with a three-song encore consisting of 'Still Unbeaten Life', 'Vital Signs' and 'Say Yes To Life' all of which went off. If you missed this tour, you'll be kicking yourself for years to come. The hype train has left and if you're not on board, you've got plenty of catching up to do.
